Activities & Programs
What is so enriching at The Village Senior Residence? Quite simply, your day-to-day lifestyle. Join in a full schedule of recreational, social and spiritual activities and programs to fulfill your interests. The Village Senior Residence offers many different types of weekly and monthly activities to keep our residents active and enjoying life. Here is a sampling of some of the programs offered to our residents:
Physical Exercise
- Residents are encouraged to join in on our exercise program, which takes place 3 times per week
- Mall walking once a week
Health
- We offer various seminars on health issues throughout the year
- Flu shot clinics are offered in the Fall
Outings
- Residents at The Village Senior Residence enjoy shopping at various stores around town, such as the local mall, Wal-Mart, Shopko, the Dollar Store, Osco, and second-hand stores once a week to once a month in the Village van
- We also take a trip to go grocery shopping once a week in the van
- Twice a week the Village van will transport residents to the bank, doctor appointments, and other scheduled appointments
- Everyone enjoys going out to lunch! Both our retirement and assisted living residents take a trip to a restaurant once a month, either out of town in the summer or in town in the winter
- Once or twice a year in the spring and/or fall, we also go out to dinner
- The Village Senior Residence also participates in other various outings, such as visiting the Iris Gardens, the Western Montana Fair, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the Fort Missoula Museum. Our residents also enjoy watching the Homecoming Parade, listening to the city band, seeing the Rocky Mountaires Variety Show, going to the Buffalo Roundup, looking at Christmas lights, and going on picnics at Marna and Bev's homes, just to name a few
Spiritual
Our residents have many options available to them to fulfill their spiritual needs, such as:
- Devotions 4 times a week
- Bible Study once a week
- Catholic Liturgy twice a month
- Presbyterian Communion is offered 4 to 6 times each year
- Interdenominational Church Services take place weekly in the activity room
- Good Friday Service once a year
Games
- Bingo three times a week
- Pinochle, Bridge, and other card games are initiated throughout the week by residents
- Dominoes once a week
Educational Seminars
Once or twice a month, The Village Senior Residence hosts various educational seminars by local experts on such topics as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, early detection of cancer, alternative transportation around Missoula, and free tax help
Other topics discussed include the Mobil Lube Express, Ronald McDonald House, Advance Directives, Garden City Funeral Home, aging services, hearing aid help, Mountain Line Bus, investment seminars, Medicaid/Medicare, prescription drugs, COPD, and facts about over-the-counter drugs
Monthly Parties & Socials
- Holiday Parties – New Year's, Christmas, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Grandparent's Day, Halloween, and the annual resident/employee party
- Theme Parties – The Super Bowl, Winterfest, beach party, anniversary week, wedding showers, graduate party, Octoberfest, etc.
- Resident Birthday Party – We hold a monthly party in honor of our resident's birthdays
- Other Fun – Root Beer Float party, Banana Split social, birthday parties, happy hours with wine tasting and entertainment, new resident tea, Red Hat Society parties, Village Gentlemen’s Lunch Club, and resident/family appreciation party, to name a few
Other Various Activities
- Crafts once a month
- Weekly Saturday night movie
- Mary Kay shows
Assisted Living Specific Activities
- Assisted Living bingo twice a month
- Manicures twice a month
- A volunteer will read the newspaper to residents with visual impairment once a week
- One-on-one visits 3 to 4 times each week
Monthly Music
- In-House – The Village Senior Residence hosts in-house music for our residents by bands and groups, such as Town & Gown Band, Cloggers, Bagpipers, Valley Christian Kids, Terry Jimerson, Dixieland Band, Lockwoods, Wild Bill, Jodi Marshal, Doreen Greg, Frank Reich, accordian music, Target Range Kids, Sentinel high school kids, Hellgate high school kids, Mendelssohns, Frenchtown kids, Big Sky kids, Rocky Mountainaires, Spanish Dancers, Missoula Strings on Tour, etc.
- Outside the Village – In addition to the in-house music played for us at The Village Senior Residence, our residents also enjoy trips out to see such bands and groups as City Band, Lord of the Dance, MCT Productions, Rocky Mountainaires Variety Show, Easter and Christmas programs at Christian Life Center, Christmas program at CLC, International Choral Festival, Airforce Band Concert, other concerts/shows at the University, and other community events
